The U.S. Senate has confirmed Christopher Giancarlo as the head of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), along with two new commissioners.

The CFTC, the U.S. derivatives regulator, announced the unanimous confirmation of Giancarlo as its chairman. He has been acting chairman of the independent agency of the government since January, and was nominated to take over as full-time chairman in March.

“I stand ready to fulfill the CFTC’s mission to foster open, transparent, competitive and financially sound markets, in a way that best fosters broad-based economic growth and American prosperity,” Giancarlo said in a statement following his confirmation.

At the same time, the Senate also unanimously confirmed two new CFTC commissioners: Brian Quintenz and Rostin Behnam. Quintenz is chief investment officer and managing principal at Saeculum Capital Management LLC, a Washington, D.C.-based financial advisory firm. Behnam is senior counsel for the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry.
