The combined market cap of the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) and TSX Venture Exchange (TSXV) hit record levels in 2017, according to data published Monday from TMX Inc., the operator of the two exchanges.

Aggregate market cap for the two exchanges grew by 9% in 2017 to just over $3.0 trillion, the highest level in the exchanges’ history. Additionally, the exchanges’ combined market cap grew 38% over the past five years.

During the year, the exchanges welcomed 127 new corporate listings, led by the mining sector, which added 55 new listings. The tech sector ranked second with 35 new listings, diversified industries, with 30 new listings, ranked third.

In total, $54.5 billion in equity capital was raised during the year, down from $62.2 billion in 2016.

The new listings included 28 initial public offerings (IPOs), which raised a combined $5.8 billion. In 2016, IPOs raised just $1.3 billion.

Additionally, there were more than 100 new ETFs listed on the exchanges in 2017, along with 37 capital pool companies, five closed-end funds, and a couple of special purpose acquisition companies.

As well, 15 companies graduated from TSXV to the senior TSX during the year.
