Tangerine, a wholly owned subsidiary of Toronto-based Bank of Nova Scotia, Friday announced that its mobile banking app will be one of the first apps available on Apple Watch.

The highly anticipated watch will allow a user to make phone calls and send messages in addition to other functions from their wrist. It will include some apps that have been developed for the technology company’s other products.

“We’re excited to be one of the first apps available on Apple Watch as we continue to deliver simple and innovative solutions that allow our clients to bank on their own terms,” said Peter Aceto, president and CEO of Tangerine. “This continuous innovation is what reinforces Tangerine’s position as a forward thinking bank and sets us apart when it comes [to] delivering the future of banking to Canadians.”

Tangerine’s mobile banking Apple Watch app looks to provide users with quick and easy access to their personal banking information, such as account balances, recent transactions and transaction details. Users can also receive notifications regarding transactions through the app and they have the ability to dismiss the alert or get more details.

The app will be available from the Apple Watch app store on April 24. It is currently available for free download onto iPhones, iPad and iPod touch.
