Foyston, Gordon and Payne Inc. (FGP) of Toronto has announced that Stephen Mitchell, a portfolio manager who specializes in global equities, is joining the firm.

Mitchell will start in his position on Sept. 7, assuming responsibility for the firm’s global and international equity mandates. He takes over from Andrew Fernow, who left FGP to pursue other interests, according to an announcement released Wednesday.

Mitchell comes to FGP from Toronto-based Burgundy Asset Management Ltd., where he spent 23 years as portfolio manager of European equity, EAFE, balanced income and bond funds. He focused on Burgundy’s global and U.S. large capitalization equity funds for almost 10 years.

“With over two decades of value investing experience, [Mitchell] has delivered strong and consistent investment performance and has built a reputation as a disciplined and thorough investment analyst and an exceptional portfolio manager,” says Bryan Pilsworth, FGP’s president and portfolio manager of Canadian equities.

FGP, which was founded in 1980, manages $13 billion in assets on behalf of institutional and private clients.
