The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is launching a new seminar series for small companies, including its first-ever session on insider reporting requirements.

The OSC announced on Monday it is offering four free educational seminars to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the fall and winter. The courses are designed to help SMEs understand the requirements of being, or becoming, a public company. The OSC reports that between 2012 and 2015, 838 people participated in 23 sessions on these issues.

Along with a new session on insider reporting and the System for Electronic Disclosure of Insiders (SEDI), the OSC SME Institute will also be offering courses capital raising for SMEs; best practices for meeting continuous disclosure obligations; and, disclosure requirements for mining issuers.

The regulator’s program aims to help SMEs keep current with the evolving regulatory requirements in an effort to help them avoid common compliance deficiencies. The courses will also be available as webinars on the OSC website.
