The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is looking for candidates to staff its advisory committee on proceedings before the regulator’s in-house tribunal.

The OSC issued a call on Wednesday for lawyers to serve on its Securities Proceedings Advisory Committee (SPAC), which provides advice to the commission on regulatory policy and other initiatives involving proceedings before the OSC’s administrative tribunal.

The committee consists of staff from the Office of the Secretary and the OSC’s enforcement branch, along with 10 to 12 private sector representatives.

Members must be in good standing with the Law Society of Upper Canada and currently practising, or have within the last three years practised, in the area of securities litigation.

“Applicants should have an excellent knowledge of Ontario securities law and have significant practice experience in securities litigation. Applicants are expected to have excellent technical knowledge and experience and a strong interest in the development of securities regulatory proceedings policy,” the OSC says in its announcement.

The SPAC meets three to four times a year. In addition, members are consulted on tribunal initiatives and are required to provide written feedback.

Members serve three-year terms, applications are due by Nov. 17.
