Rise of fintech includes many future risks, FSB says

The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is seeking applications for membership on its fintech advisory committee.

The committee advises staff of the regulator’s in-house financial technology unit, OSC LaunchPad, about “developments in the fintech space and the unique challenges faced by innovative businesses in the securities industry.”

In particular, the OSC is looking for prospective members with experience in one or more of the following areas:

> digital platforms, such as robo-advisors or crowdfunding portals;
> cryptocurrencies or distributed ledger technologies (blockchain);
> fintech-focused venture investing;
> data science or artificial intelligence;
> compliance or regtech; or
> cryptography or cybersecurity.

The committee will meet quarterly, with additional meetings as required. It will be chaired by Pat Chaukos, deputy director, OSC LaunchPad, and will consist of up to 15 members. Membership terms will be for one year.

Applications to join the committee are due by Dec. 22.
