Montreal-based National Bank of Canada (TSX: NA) Friday announced the appointment of Raymond Bachand and Karen Kinsley to its board of directors.

Their appointments take effect on October 29 and December 3, 2014, respectively.

From 1981 to 2005, Raymond Bachand occupied numerous key functions in the private sector, notably at Metro Richelieu and Culinar. He also served as president and CEO of the Fonds de solidarité FTQ and SECOR.

In 2005,Bachand was elected to the Quebec National Assembly, where he served in several ministerial positions, including Minister of the Economy, Innovation and Exports, and Minister of Tourism. He presented three budgets as Minister of Finance from 2009 to 2012, while also assuming the role of Minister of Revenue from 2010 to 2012.

After retiring from politics, Bachand joined the Montreal office of the law firm Norton Rose Fulbright as a strategic advisor. He also serves as a director of Transat A.T. Inc., chairman of the board of directors of Tourism Montreal and president of the Institut du Québec.

Bachand holds both a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) and an MBA from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration

Karen Kinsley served as president and CEO of Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. (CMHC) from 2003 to 2013. A Fellow Chartered Professional Accountant, Kinsley has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Ottawa.
