Are women really risk-averse?

Florence Godard-Kalogiros and Ekin Ober are the winners of the 2017 Women in Financial Markets Scholarship, sponsored by Montreal-based National Bank of Canada.

The scholarship awards $10,000 to students who have demonstrated a strong interest in a career in financial markets. In addition to the financial award, the program provides the winners with an internship and mentoring opportunities within the bank.

“Diversity is at the heart of our organizational culture and we are committed to promoting strong women leaders in the Canadian capital markets,” says Denis Girouard, executive vice president, financial markets with National Bank, in a statement. “We are very proud that our scholarship program, now in its eighth year, keeps attracting such talented candidates.”

Godard-Kalogiros is a student at HEC Montreal, at which she is studying for a master’s degree in management with a specialization in finance. Ober is working toward a juris doctor degree at Osgoode Hall Law School and a master’s degree in business administration at York University’s Schulich School of Business.

“This year’s scholarship winners are well-qualified individuals who both have unique backgrounds and experiences that allowed them to discover their passion for finance,” says France Beauregard, senior manager, human resources, financial markets with National Bank, in a statement. “We look forward to furthering their interest in capital markets during their internship.”
