Toronto-based Morningstar Research, Inc. has launched a new iPad app that will allow financial advisors access to the company’s portfolio analysis and investment research platform.

Morningstar for Advisors App syncs client account, portfolio, and investment information from Morningstar Advisor Workstation, allowing advisors to monitor, display and analyze client holdings and portfolios in real time outside the office.

The app is now available on Apple Inc.’s app store and is available for use for Morningstar Advisor Workstation clients who purchase directly from Morningstar. Other Morningstar Advisor Workstation clients will have access as their firms enable the feature.

“Industry trends, including advancing technology and an ever-changing regulatory environment are driving a fundamental shift in the way advisors interact with their clients,” says Scott Mackenzie, president and CEO of Morningstar Research, in a statement. “As a result of the CRM2 implementation in mid-July, the spotlight on investment fees means advisors must be able to demonstrate their value in terms that their clients can easily understand. Advisors who can do this, leveraging interactive tools like the Morningstar for Advisors iPad app, are going to have a significant advantage.”
