The Ontario Securities Commission brought hundreds of market participants together in Toronto on October 16, to hear panelists discuss issues and trends facing the capital markets.

Attendees heard panelists discuss governance, technology, enforcement and product innovations.

Panels this year were:

  • Moderated by OSC Chairman Howard Wetston, a lively discussion on the role of shareholder activism and corporate governance with Bill Ackman, founder of Pershing Square Capital Management, Sharon Geraghty, Torys LLP and Roberta Karmel, Brooklyn Law School;
  • A compelling discussion about the evolving technology and its impact in the market, moderated by Maureen Jensen, OSC executive director, with regulators, market participants and researchers’
  • A discussion of innovations in products and distribution with regulators — OSC director Rhonda Goldberg — and manufacturers, moderated by Som Seif, Purpose Investments;
