MD Financial Management Inc. has launched MD MedEd Counsel, a team of MD advisors and early career specialists dedicated solely to meeting the financial needs of medical students and residents, the Ottawa-based company announced on Friday.

“We’ve been serving medical students and residents for more than 45 years, so no other firm understands their needs like we do,” said Mike Gassewitz, executive vice-president of member solutions, in a statement.

“MD’s specialized knowledge of the student and resident lifecycle means that we are uniquely positioned to provide the services and advice they need, whether they’re looking to manage debt, pay for medical school, start investing or prepare for residency,” he added.

Through the new service, students and residents gain access to a dedicated advisor who can provide personalized financial help and guidance. Advisors are available for online and phone consultations, and can meet at times and locations that fit in with their clients’ busy lives.

As with all MD advisors, members of the MD MedEd Counsel team work on salary, not commission, the company notes. Without incentives to sell any particular product, they provide objective advice that is in students’ and residents’ best interests.

Owned by the Canadian Medical Association, MD Financial provides financial products and services for Canada’s physicians and their families.
