Toronto-based Manulife Financial Corp. announced on Wednesday that London, Ont.-based GoodLife Fitness Centres Inc. is the exclusive fitness club rewards provider for the insurance firm’s proposed Vitality program.

Vitality, slated to launch later this year, will reward clients holding certain life insurance policies for “healthy living.” The program will include access to subsidized gym memberships at GoodLife Fitness clubs across Canada and its Énergie Cardio locations in Quebec.

“Encouraging physical activity and healthy living choices is the foundation of the Manulife Vitality program,” Manulife states in an announcement. “Providing subsidized memberships to the country’s largest fitness club chain creates a clear alignment with the goals of the member and the program.”

The Vitality program is designed to allow certain clients to save on their insurance premiums and earn rewards and discounts for taking steps to improve their health. Manulife announced in July that Olathe, Kansas-based Garmin International Inc. will be the provider of wearable fitness devices that will be available free of charge to Vitality members. The devices help users track their physical activities as a part of the program.

Vitality will initially be made available to clients of individual life policies. Manulife says it is considering offering it through other products as well.
