The International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) announced on Wednesday that securities regulators around the world will engage in a variety of activities to promote investor protection and investor education during the week of Oct. 2.

The initiative, which will be known as World Investor Week, will feature regulators launching investor-focused services, holding contests to promote investor education initiatives, organizing workshops and conferences, and conducting local/national campaigns in their own jurisdictions.

In Canada, the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) will launch a new Advanced Investor Risk Profile tool during the week and the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) will release the latest results of the Canadian Investor Survey, among other things.

“World Investor Week is a week-long, global campaign for IOSCO to raise awareness about the importance of investor education and protection and highlight the various initiatives of securities regulators in these two critical areas,” says Ashley Alder, chairman of IOSCO;s board and CEO of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission, in a statement.

“We encourage all IOSCO members and other stakeholders to take part in World Investor Week and help ensure that its important messages on the education and protection of investors are heard across the globe,” adds José Alexandre Vasco, chairman of IOSCO’s committee on retail investors, in a statement.

IOSCO has launched a dedicated website for World Investor Week.
