No-contest settlement with BMO firms will see clients repaid $50 million

Toronto-based Franklin Templeton Investments Corp. announced on Friday that two arms of its Canadian advisory business have new leaders at the helm.

Dennis Tew was appointed head of national sales for Canada and is responsible for leading the Canadian retail distribution team. Tew is a 20-year veteran of the asset manager and was most recently head of business strategy.

Matthew Williams was appointed head of institutional and client service for Canada. He has more than 20 years of experience in wealth and institutional management and joined the firm in 2013. Williams was most recently head of defined-contribution and retirement for Canada.

The appointments were in effect on Dec. 1, 2016. Tew and Williams report to Duane Green, the firm’s managing director for Canada.

“Providing advisors and clients with specialized products and services to address their changing needs and challenges is a dedicated focus for our firm,” says Green in a statement. “With more than two decades of experience each, Dennis’ and Matt’s leadership is fundamental to growing our business in Canada as the marketplace and distribution models evolve.”

Green will soon be making a move of his own within Franklin Templeton when he becomes the firm’s president and CEO in Canada on Feb. 1 following the retirement of the asset manager’s current leader, Don Reed.
