FPSC makes changes to its board of directors

The Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC) has named a new chairman and a trio of new directors to its board following its annual meeting in St John’s, Nfld.

Specifically, the FPSC announced that Dan Busi, vice president and investment counsellor with RBC PH&N Investment Counsel in Calgary, is taking over as chairman.

At the same time, the FPSC also appointed Dave Wild, former chairman and CEO of Saskatchewan’s Financial Consumer Affairs Authority (FCAA), to its board as a public director. Wild is currently associate deputy minister of finance responsible for the Public Employee Benefits Agency in Saskatchewan.

In addition, Ron Harvey, senior financial advisor and branch manager at Investment Planning Counsel Inc. in Ottawa, is also joining the board while Martin Dupras, an independent financial planner and president of ConFor financiers in Montreal, was elected to the board as the Quebec financial planner representative.

“The newly constituted board of directors has a significant opportunity to guide the future of the financial planning profession in Canada,” says Busi in a statement. “As the financial services industry enters this period of transformation, FPSC will play an important role in ensuring that those it certifies meet the changing needs of Canadian consumers and maintain a strong foundation on which the financial planning profession is built.”

The FPSC also elected Brett Millard, owner of SPEIR Wealth Management Inc. in Kelowna, B.C., as vice chairman.

Board members may serve up to two three-year terms. The board then appoints the chairman or chairwoman, who may serve up to two years in that role.
