Tom Kloet, the former head of the TMX Group Ltd., is joining the board of U.S. exchange giant, Nasdaq, as a non-executive director.

Kloet ran the TMX from 2008 until October of last year, taking it through a failed merger with the London Stock Exchange plc. This ultimately resulted in further consolidation and vertical integration within the Canadian trading landscape.

Before taking over as head of the TMX, Kloet was a senior executive at Fimat USA, LLC, and he was the first CEO of the Singapore Exchange Ltd.

He has previously served on the board of the TSX as well as numerous other industry firms and organizations, including the Bermuda Stock Exchange; Chicago Mercantile Exchange; CBOE Futures Exchange; Chicago Stock Exchange; World Federation of Exchanges; National Futures Association; and the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC). He was also chairman of the board for the BOX Options Exchange and he’s currently a member of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s (CFTC) Market Risk Advisory Committee.
