Toronto-based Foresters launched a new participating whole life insurance policy in Canada on Monday, called Advantage Plus.

The new product replaces Foresters’ previously available participating whole life product, called FamilyLife.

Advantage Plus has a variety of optional features that can be customized to each client’s unique circumstances. Several of the features are designed to appeal specifically to clients who have or are planning to have children.

“At Foresters, we’re committed to providing flexible products that answer the needs of today’s families,” said Hendrik Verdurmen, vice president, product development, North America life insurance, Foresters. “Advantage Plus offers solid protection as well as some offerings that are not generally available in Canadian products.”

Clients with Advantage Plus can choose the pay periods and dividend options best suited to their needs. Other product features include:

  • Term riders and spousal term riders of 10, 20 and 30 years, which clients can use to temporarily increase coverage to meet short-term protection needs;
  • Built-in children’s insurance benefit, which provides $3,000 of convertible term life insurance for the insured person’s children, in cases in which the insured person is between 18 and 55;
  • Juvenile guaranteed insurance benefit, which provides the insured person with the right to purchase additional insurance on certain option dates, without evidence of insurability, if the insured person is younger than 18 on the certificate’s issue date;
  • Quit smoking incentive plan, which allows clients who are classified as smokers, and at least 16 years old on the certificate issue date, to pay non-smoker premiums for the first two certificate years; and,
  • Access to advance medical’s expert medical opinion program, which can provide expert advice to certificate holders and their families upon request.

Clients insured under Advantage Plus also get access to Foresters Member Benefits for the primary insured and their immediate family members. These benefits currently include academic scholarships, financial counseling and discounted legal services.
