Dennis Mitchell, the former and executive vice president and chief investment officer (CIO) at Toronto-based Sentry Investments Inc., has joined Sprott Asset Management LP as senior portfolio manager and senior vice president. The move is pending regulatory approval.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dennis Mitchell to our investment team. Dennis is a well-known portfolio manager with deep experience managing global equity, infrastructure and REIT funds,” said John Wilson, CEO and co-chief investment officer of Toronto-based Sprott, in a statement. “We look forward to expanding our product offerings in these core categories and introducing our clients to Dennis’s proven and differentiated investment approach.”

Prior to Mitchell’s new role, he was a high-profile member of Sentry’s investment team, where he oversaw more than $18 billion in assets under management. His departure from the firm was announced in July, when Sentry disclosed that Sandy McIntyre would be returning to the firm in the role of CIO. An official reason for Mitchell’s departure was not provided.

“I’m pleased to be joining Sprott and look forward to working with the team to develop new products focused on delivering strong risk-adjusted returns to investors over the long term,” says Mitchell in the statement. “I chose Sprott because their platform provides me the best opportunity to leverage my experience and expertise in building this exciting new business.”
