Veteran fund manger Kim Shannon is joining the national advisory council at the C.D. Howe Institute.

Shannon has been appointed to the think tank’s National Council, which provides advice on its research program.

The council, which is chaired by former Bank of Canada governor David Dodge, includes a number of financial industry luminaries. Last month, Susan Wolburgh Jenah, former president and CEO at the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC), also joined the council.

Shannon founded Sionna Investment Managers in 2002 and has more than 30 years of investment management experience. Previously she was former chief investment officer and senior vice president at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers Canada Inc.

“Kim’s insights into business and economics, her rich knowledge of global capital markets, and her commitment to good policy will make her a tremendous contributor to the council,” said William Robson, president and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute.

Shannon is currently a member of the CFA Institute Board of Regents, she is a past president of the CFA Society Toronto, and she’s on the board of the Brandes Institute. She’s also on the boards of the Canadian Coalition for Good Governance, the Canadian Board Diversity Council, the Women’s College Hospital Investment Committee, and United Corp., a closed-end fund.
