Smithers, B.C.-based Bulkley Valley Credit Union has selected Vancouver-based Qtrade Financial Group to become its new provider of wealth-management services as the credit union places a greater effort on growing that part of the business.

The deal provides the credit union and its subsidiary, Bulkley Valley Financial Services Ltd., access to Qtrade’s full-service brokerage platform for investment services. The credit union already serves its self-managed investors through Qtrade’s online brokerage platform.

“Qtrade offers industry-leading technology and expertise, and shares our everyday commitment to providing the highest personal member and client service,” says Dave Stene, CEO of Bulkley Valley Credit Union, a full-service co-operative that serves more than 15,000 members in B.C., in a statement released Monday. “We are confident that by expanding this relationship, we can build on our success, and grow our wealth management business more quickly.”

“We are excited that after thoroughly reviewing its options, Bulkley Valley Credit Union has placed its trust in us for this partnership,” adds Bill Packham, CEO of Qtrade Financial Group, in a statement. “Our focus will be on supporting its advisors to deliver a broader wealth-management offering that will foster deeper relationships with members. We look forward to working with Bulkley Valley Credit Union to accelerate its growth and to help its members achieve their long-term financial goals.”

This is the second wealth-management partnership that Qtrade has struck with a credit union during the past month. The firm announced earlier in May that it would provide wealth-management services to Prince George, B.C.-based Integris Credit Union.
