Blockchain pioneer and expert Anthony Di Iorio has joined Mogo Finance Technology Inc. as a special advisor to support the upcoming launch of the company’s recently announced cryptocurrency account and new strategic partnership opportunities in blockchain and cryptocurrencies, Vancouver-based Mogo announced on Monday.

Last week, Mogo announced plans to launch bitcoin trading for its clients in the first quarter of 2018.

Di Iorio is the co-founder of ethereum, an open-source, blockchain-based distributed computing platform.

“Having one of the co-founders of ethereum join Mogo is a major milestone for us as we look to leverage blockchain in our platform and business,” says David Feller, founder and CEO of Mogo, in a statement.

Currently, Di Iorio is CEO and founder of Decentral Inc., a blockchain-focused software firm. He has also served as chief digital officer at the TMX Group, and also helped launch the Blockchain Association of Canada, an industry trade group .

“Mogo has built a powerful platform that is empowering the next generation of Canadians to gain control of their financial health with innovative digital finance products,” says Di lorio, in a statement.

“Blockchain and cryptocurrencies are a natural extension for Mogo as it’s a truly disruptive technology that can remove expensive manual processes that are traditionally used by financial institutions and ultimately help consumers,” he adds.
