Prosper Canada, a national charity dedicated to expanding economic opportunity for Canadians living in poverty through program and policy innovation, has partnered with Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC) to recruit volunteers from the financial planning community for an innovative pilot project.

Prosper Canada is seeking CFP professionals and FPSC Level 1 Certificants in Financial Planning with a minimum of four years of experience providing financial advice to take part in the MPower Money Coaching Program in Toronto.

The program provides financial planners with an opportunity to give back to their communities by providing guidance, support and ongoing encouragement to people whose resources are very limited and for whom financial matters represent a source of stress that they may feel ill-equipped to manage.

As a Volunteer Financial Coach, planners will commit a total of 4-6 hours per month from June through October 2015. Each coach will provide one-on-one financial coaching to two highly motivated participants who receive social assistance and/or other social supports from City of Toronto Employment Centres.

Coaches will help participants to access the financial information they need to make informed choices, to access supports that are available to them (e.g. tax filing assistance) and to map out options they can choose from to make progress toward greater financial stability. Training and support will be provided.

The MPower Money Coaching Program will be delivered through three City of Toronto Employment Centres, located in downtown Toronto, The Beaches or Dundas West at Bloor.

A full description of the Volunteer Financial Coach role, including an online application form, is available from Prosper Canada.

The deadline for applications is April 24.
